The Mystery of Suffering | Scripture Reference: Job 3
Discuss the following questions with your Small Group:
- How have you witnessed people’s responses to suffering in their life?
- Read and compare Job 1:20-22 and Job 2:10 with Job 3. How are Job’s responses different in these chapters?
- What do you feel as you read through Job 3?
- How would you respond if you were there when Job shared his words here?
- What is the difference between lamenting and whining?
- How does Jesus’s lament on the cross (see Mark 15:34 quoting Psalm 22:1) on the cross speak to us in our lamenting?
- How can we create space and freedom for people to lament like Job does (and we often see in the book of Psalms)? Consider having a time of lament in your prayer time as a group this week (refer to this weekend’s church program for guidance).
