The Space for Lament

  |

Continue the Conversation Questions
The Mystery of Suffering | Scripture Reference: Job 3
Discuss the following questions with your Small Group:

  1. How have you witnessed people’s responses to suffering in their life?
  2. Read and compare Job 1:20-22 and Job 2:10 with Job 3. How are Job’s responses different in these chapters?
  3. What do you feel as you read through Job 3?
  4. How would you respond if you were there when Job shared his words here?
  5. What is the difference between lamenting and whining?
  6. How does Jesus’s lament on the cross (see Mark 15:34 quoting Psalm 22:1) on the cross speak to us in our lamenting?
  7. How can we create space and freedom for people to lament like Job does (and we often see in the book of Psalms)?  Consider having a time of lament in your prayer time as a group this week (refer to this weekend’s church program for guidance).

Truth in Genesis

What’s truth? We live in a society where people tend to define their own truths, using their own guidelines. Where values and beliefs are spun in such a way that makes us question if God’s way really is the best.

But does a Universal Truth exist? We believe there is and it’s been recorded in roughly 757,000 words. We invite you to join us as we open that source, God’s Word, and equip you to have complicated conversations with those who are defining their own truth.
