Discuss the following questions with your Small Group:

  1. How has this series shifted your thoughts and perspective on depression, fear, and anxiety?
  2. While the emotions of fear, anxiety, and worry are not sin in themselves (and can actually be beneficial to us), how might they lead towards despair and (even) sin?
  3. What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘anxiety?’
  4. Read 1 Kings 19:1-5.  Elijah has just come off a literal ‘mountain-top’ experience, and quickly plummets to crippling fear and despair.  What caused Elijah to feel anxious and fearful in 1 Kings 19:1-5? Has there been a time when you felt like Elijah felt in 1 Kings 19? What led to it? What might that teach you about these situations?
  5. Read 1 Kings 19:6-18. How does God minister and bring restoration to Elijah? How has he met you in times of great fear and worry?
  6. What role can God’s Word and His people play in helping us as we deal in different ways with depression, anxiety, and fear?
  7. Read Philippians 4:4-9. What are Paul’s antidotes for anxiety? What does this passage look like for you personally?

Complicated Conversations

Truth in Genesis

What’s truth? We live in a society where people tend to define their own truths, using their own guidelines. Where values and beliefs are spun in such a way that makes us question if God’s way really is the best.

But does a Universal Truth exist? We believe there is and it’s been recorded in roughly 757,000 words. We invite you to join us as we open that source, God’s Word, and equip you to have complicated conversations with those who are defining their own truth.
